On election day, 1993, hot Santa Anna winds swirl up a firestorm through the ridges and canyons of Malibu. This view is from just south of Santa Monica Pier, perhaps 15 minutes after I first noticed it. The burning went unabated for 3 days and nights as it was fought by thousands of fire fighters. It burned hundreds of homes and tens of thousands of mountain, canyon and beachside acres, the confligration only ending after a change to damp, foggy weather.
