Los Angeles, California
by Steven John Koeppe - Acrylic on canvas, 18"x14"
For some time I've contemplated painting a series featuring historic movie marques, starting with one of the most extravagant and ornate movie palaces, The Los Angeles Theatre. Built downtown on Broadway between 1911 and 1931, it's a deserving subject to begin with. At the urging of former Mayor Tom Bradley and to save it from demolition, real estate developer Ezat Delijani bought the theater in 1987. Mr. Delijani, who's family spent over a million dollars on its restoration, died on Aug. 27, 2011.
