Pan Pacific Auditorium
Los Angeles, California
by Steven John Koeppe - Acrylic on canvas, 18"x24" - 2012
Pan Pacific Auditorium was one of westside L.A.'s first big event and convention centers. I saw it (but only from the outside) in the late seventies, soon after it closed. I understand that inside the open ceiling revealed it to be a plus-size gymnasium graced by an art deco masterpiece entrance in stucco. I would have liked to have seen that gymnasium. It was destroyed by fire in 1989, more that 54 years after it's opening in 1935.
